We the undersigned are extremely concerned about the growing international tension and the dangerous threats that have been exchanged between the leaders of the U.S. and North Korea.
We urge to you take the following actions to prevent a nuclear war.
- Rule out sending British armed forces to the Korean Peninsula. Last year, Britain sent four RAF Typhoon aircraft to take part in US-South Korea military exercises. More of these could push tensions over the edge.
- Condemn the war of words between Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un and support efforts to resume the Six Party Talks. Between 2003 and 2009, these negotiations brought South Korea, North Korea, the US, China, Japan and Russia around the table. Diplomatic talks, rather than nuclear brinkmanship, is the only route to peace.
- Back the ban. Join the international community and the 122 countries that voted to ban nuclear weapons at the UN general assembly in 2017.
Yours sincerely
